Cebu gov't to donate P5M to Ilocos Norte

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - True to their sisterhood pact that spoke of friendship and cooperation, the province of Cebu will be donating P5 million to typhoon-ravaged Ilocos Norte.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is scheduled to fly to Ilocos Norte today to personally hand the amount over to Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.

Raging floods caused by Typhoon Mina affected around 20,000 families in Ilocos Norte before it departed the country and moved to Taiwan.

Garcia, in a press conference yesterday, said the amount was released to help the Ilocanos.

“We will help our brothers and sisters in time of their needs. As Cebuanos, we will continue to help in the relief efforts of Ilocos Norte,” Garcia said.

Garcia and Marcos signed a sisterhood pact in Ilocos Norte on July 2, the same day former first lady and now Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, Imee’s mother, celebrated her 82nd birthday.

Mina caused several parts of Ilocos Norte to submerge in floods, particularly the towns of Solona and Dingras. Damages in the province are estimated to cost P211 million. (FREEMAN)
