Minibus rams motorcycle in Naga
CEBU, Philippines - A man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a minibus at the national highway of Barangay Tinaan, City of Naga, Cebu late Sunday morning.
The casualty was identified as Artemio Caburnay, 38, of Toledo City. He was rushed to the South General Hospital but the attending physician declared him dead a few minutes later.
Police said that an Isuzu Elf mini bus bearing GXB 621 driven by Edgar Tabanao, 27, of sitio Uling, Bolinawan, Carcar City was traveling Cebu City at that time while Caburnay was bound south on board his Suzuki motorcycle bearing 9820GR.
Police Officer 1 Ronjie Nadora said that Tabanao was trying to overtake a private vehicle that he was tailing, encroaching on the opposite lane. This resulted in a head-on collision with the motorcycle.
Nadora added that Tabanao had difficulty going back to his proper lane because he would then hit the private vehicle.
“Naglisod na siya og bawi unya paingon na ang motor,” he said. Because of the impact, Caburnay was thrown a few meters away from his motorcycle, causing him severe injuries.
Tabanao voluntarily submitted himself to the police but he was only detained for a night after the family of the victim refused to file a case and opted for an amicable settlement.
Tabanao assured he would shoulder the burial expenses. The minibus was also returned to its owner last Monday. — (FREEMAN)
