Larsian to get an upgrade

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Government is planning to upgrade the famed barbecue place known as Larsian.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said they have been regularly monitoring the place and found out that the Coca-Cola Co., which offered to build the stalls, is not doing the necessary repairs.

“This is really important because Larsian has been part of Cebu. It’s a tourist destination,” Garcia said

Garcia said the plan includes constructing additional restrooms and drainage.

Moreover, they will address the problem on smoke by constructing better ventilation at the center of the place.

“I suggested mag-common ta og sugbaanan ug gwapohon nato. Made of bricks with enough ventilation para ma-confine ang aso,” the governor said.

The governor also thought of linking up with Obra Negosyo Skwela by letting the stall owners use smokeless and environment-friendly charcoal. The province also plans to put up a stall selling goods from various towns of Cebu.

The plan to upgrade the place came up when the group of Me Anne Alcordo of the My Shelter Foundation met with Garcia regarding their plan to promote solar bulbs and showcase them at Larsian.

“Ideal showcase ang Larsian kay naa’y operations during the day and kaning stalls instead of putting regular fluorescent bulb mahimong mogamit sa solar bulbs, maka us-os jud bayranan sa kuryente,” the governor said.

The group met with the governor, the president of the association of Larsian stallholders and Coca-Cola.

“And what I gathered was a lot needs to be done unta. Since 2007, Coca-cola tanan mihimo sa stalls, and duna silay exclusivity, ila ra gyung products. On the other hand I said wa man gyud na intawon ninyo gi-maintain and complaints of the stallholders were not really attended to,” Garcia said. Garcia said the comprehensive plan will be presented next week through Cebu Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre.

“We will upgrade Larsian to become an attractive and cherished destination for all Cebuanos and visitors. Daghan na mo dihang memories, including the aso,” Garcia said.

Larsian sa Fuente, or simply Larsian, is a stretch of barbeque stalls that serve grilled meat and seafood. It is open from 2 p.m. until the wee hours of the morning. — (FREEMAN)
