Rama urged to address illegal construction on Kamagong St.

CEBU, Philippines - A Cebu City resident has asked Mayor Michael Rama to attend to the alleged illegal construction of residential houses that are already encroaching on Kamagong Street.

Manuel Sainz, Jr. has sent a letter to Rama requesting for an immediate solution to the problem because it is causing heavy traffic in the area.

Rama immediately ordered the Squatters Prevention Encroachment Elimination Division (SPEED) to look into the complaint. Aside from illegal construction, overnight parking has also contributed to the problem on Kamagong Street.

City Traffic Operations Management chairman Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem said that overnight parking on the roadside is strictly prohibited. It was however observed that this has not been strictly implemented by the traffic authorities in the past years.

Kamagong Street, a road situated few meters away from Lahug Elementary School, is an alternative route for Escario Street and Cebu Business Park.

Meanwhile, Talamban barangay captain Jesus Remedio has requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct ocular inspection of the four bridges in sitio Kalubihan, Lower Talamban and Tigbao.

This after he received reports from motorists who experienced that these concrete bridges would vibrate when heavy vehicles passes through it.

Remedio asked DPWH engineers to check on the bridges’ structural integrity and to riprap the riverbanks. – (FREEMAN)
