DSWD plants 2,000 trees

- PR/JPM -

CEBU, Philippines -More than 200 employees of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas planted 2,000 seedlings of assorted trees in the mountain barangay of Sudlon 1 in Cebu City.

The activity started with a lecture on the National Greening program, including tips on caring for the seedlings planted and ways to protect environment.

The lecture was facilitated by representatives from CENRO.

DSWD 7 Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre said the activity would help strengthen the formation of values and ethical behavior of their staff so they would achieve a zero tolerance for corruption.

The values they are pursuing for the workers are being pro-God, pro-people and pro-environment aside from being patriotic.

Joining the DSWD staff were beneficiaries of DSWD’s popular conditional cash transfer program called Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino.

The same beneficiaries, who are living near the vicinity of the tree planting site, will be watering and monitoring the planted seedlings to ensure success of the endeavor.

Among those who participated were the staff members from the Office of the Regional Director, Management, Technical and Operation Divisions, workers from the Pantawid Pamilya program and center staff from the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU), Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Cebu Team, Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC), The Haven, Home for Girls (HFG), and the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC).

A contract was signed a week before the actual tree planting between the DSWD-7, CENRO and the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya program to ensure sustainability of the project. (FREEMAN)
