Man dies in road accident
CEBU, Philippines - The supervisor of the housekeeping department of Gaisano Carcar died while his backrider was injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a cargo van parked along the road Wednesday dawn in barangay Mantalongon, Barili.
Esteban Barolo, 25, was declared dead on arrival at the Barili District Hospital where he and Rowena Catalan, 25, of barangay Balud, Dalaguete, were taken.
Catalan sustained serious injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
Senior Police Officer 2 Marcelo Quevido, Barili police investigator, said the two were heading home from barangay Azucena after having dinner at the house of their friend.
While they were traveling along the provincial road on board a Rusi motorcycle with plate number 8902GR, the motorcycle bumped at the back portion of a Mitsubishi cargo van bearing plate number GHH 170 parked along the road.
Barolo lost control of the motorcycle.
According to Catalan, Quevido said, Barolo was driving on a high speed and the headlights of the motorcycle were defective.
The police said there are street lights at every 20-meter distance but the road is accident-prone due to a blind curve. (FREEMAN)
