13-year-old boy arrested for stealing motorcycle

CEBU, Philippines - A 13-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Casals Village, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Kevin (not his real name) was caught in the act of stealing a motorcycle owned by construction worker Versicio Perez, 37, of Barangay Pook, Talisay City.

Perez said he was fixing a roof at around 9:00 a.m. when he saw Kevin approaching his motorcycle.

The boy, Perez said, got on the motorcycle and sped away.

The victim shouted for help at his co-worker, Carlito Gabusan, 40, who was on the ground floor. 

Gabusan immediately ran towards the motorcycle and apprehended Kevin.

“Kun di palang siya bata, gi-bun-og na siya sa among mga kauban nga nag da na’g mga bato ug mga bunal,” Gabusan said.

Perez and Gabusan asked the village security guard to call the police for assistance.

Kevin, who temporarily resides at his friend’s house along B. Rodriguez Street Cebu City, told The FREEMAN that he has been stealing motorcycles for over a year.

So far, Kevin said, he has stolen at least six motorcycles since his return from Mindanao.

Wa man koy choice, buwag man akong mama ug papa, ako nalang usa” Kevin said.

Kevin is temporarily in the custody of the Cebu City Police Office.

He will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (FREEMAN)
