Man dies, woman hurt in separate shootings

CEBU, Philippines - A man died while a woman was injured in two separate shooting incidents in Cebu City last Monday.

Love triangle is eyed as motive behind the shooting of a 32-year-old single mother in Barangay Guadalupe Monday evening. Rowena Bensing, dealer of herbal products, was driving her car on the way to Guadalupe Church at 8:20 p.m. to drop off a co-worker when a motorcycle-riding gunman shot her while she stopped for a red light at the Guadalupe-Banawa intersection.

The gunman fired three shots at the victim hitting her once in the body. Though wounded and bleeding, Bensing managed to drive herself towards a private hospital where she is now confined. Police investigators recovered four empty shells of caliber .45 bullets.

Homicide investigator Cristobal Geronimo said victim is uncooperative in their investigation. He believes that Bensing is hiding something from them.

Initial investigation shows that Bensing was on her way to drop off Jodell Gonzaga near the Guadalupe Church when the shooting incident happened. Her two children and other co-worker Melona Lopez witnessed the incident.

Meanwhile, Dennis Paco, 26, of V. Aranas Extension, Duljo Fatima, Cebu City was shot dead by an unidentified gunman Monday dawn.

Paco reportedly went out of the house at 1:00 a.m. to urinate when he got shot by still unidentified person. The people in the neighborhood who were awakened by the gunfire saw Paco on the ground bathed with his own blood.

He was immediately rushed to Cebu City Medical Center but died later. The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the stomach and at his back. — (FREEMAN)
