- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The sister of President Benigno Aquino III, Pinky Abellada, will be in Cebu today to turn over four classrooms to two schools elementary schools.

The project is among those implemented by the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pag-Angat at Pag-Asa Foundation Inc. (AGAPP) for which Abellada is chairperson and convenor.

The recipients of the classrooms that also serve as libraries are the Pinamungajan Elementary School in the western town of Pinamungajan and Guindarohan Elementary School in Minglanilla town.

Last January, AGAPP turned over 10 daycare classrooms to two public schools in Cebu to support schools located in depressed and disadvantaged communities.

Gabby Cruz, AGAPP local representative, said 26 more day care classrooms will be constructed in Cebu within the year. He said the group is targeting to build at least 100 classrooms in one year and 2000 classrooms all over the country by 2016. Cebu is reportedly its top recipient.

Each classroom occupies an area of 160 square meter and is complete with books, furniture, including a bathroom. It costs between P700,000 to P780,000.

AGAPP’s main objective is to support the education sector, especially the initiatives of the Department of Education for pre-school children.

Cruz said private companies and other foundations have given their commitment to support AGAPP’s advocacy.
