CEBU, Philippines - A farmer committed suicide by drinking pesticide that he was using in his farm in Barangay Catang, Argao Saturday night.
It was learned it was the second time that Brigilio Tampepe, 40, tried to end his life by drinking pesticide.
The first time he attempted to kill himself eight years ago, his brother prevented him after he saw him about to drink a pesticide being used in tomato plants.
But on Saturday night, police said Tampepe succeeded in drinking 10 grams of Furadan Granules, a brand of pesticide.
The victim was allegedly drunk when he arrived home and directly went to the cellar of his house where the pesticide was and immediately drank it.
His family rushed him to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival at 10:45 in the evening.
Tampepe’s mother, Maria, alleged that she thought Brigilio sleeping at the cellar but she noticed that bubbles were coming out from his mouth which prompted her to seek help from her other sons.
Maria told The Freeman that Brigilio never told them anything about his personal problems.
“Wala gyud iya rang giingon, ‘babay nalang mga igsuon’ una siya nawagtangan sa panimuot,” she said.
According to her, they never disturb Brigilio whenever he was drunk to avoid trouble. –THE FREEMAN
