CCPO to launch event for streetchildren

- Mechievilla Carline Benolerao -

CEBU, Philippines - Streetchildren in Cebu City will be the center of an activity to be launched by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) as part of its community relations project.

Dubbed as the “Adlaw Sa Mga Batan-ong Libod-Suroy” (A Day for Streetchildren), the event is one of the highlights of the CCPO’s celebration of its 16th Police Community Relations Month which will start on July 1.

It will be held with the theme “Pangga-on, Amumahon para dili mahimong Labad ug Badlongon (PAPA-LAB).

CCPO Director Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe and the entire Cebu City police force will gather street children from different barangays as well as the adopted children of the Fuente Police Station.

Buenafe composed a song for these street children entitled “Batang Libod Suroy” specifically for the event.

The song shows the situations that these children have to go through and the treatment that the people are giving them.

“Mangita’g tawong mutagad, kanamong pinasagdan sa ginikanan, maluoy pa ba ang makakita, wala nay panahon ang katilingban,” the song goes.

Buenafe believes that through this activity, the police can help these children out of the possibility of committing crimes.

Aside from a feeding program, they will also have film showing for the children.

CCPO also have a fund raising campaign for the street children through the project “Piso sa Pulis Alang sa Batang Libod Suroy.”

“Kanang piso nga atong ihulog dako na kay na og ikatabang alang sa atong mga batang libod suroy, sila maoy nanginahanglan sa atong pagtagad,” Buenafe said. (One peso could go a long way in helping the children.) — (FREEMAN)
