2nd Environment congress opened
CEBU, Philippines - More than three hundred participants from the academe, local government units, industries and other civil society groups attended the 2nd Environmental Congress with theme: Ecological Emergency: Man and Nature together in the strive for survival.
DENR-7 Regional Executive Director Maximo Dichoso said the congress aims to gather the environmental advocates and enthusiasts in mapping out feasible solutions on the challenges concerning the environment.
Dichoso said that the congress is designed to share scientific findings, effective approaches and experience-based strategic programs on climate change adaptation and vulnerability.
The two-day congress, which started yesterday, included presentation sessions contributed by a pool of experts with experience at the local and global scale.
“With the precarious situation now particularly on the creeping impacts of climate change, we must hold our hands together and listen to experts so that we will know very carefully on how to respond appropriately,” Dichoso said.
Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan discussed about the balanced and healthful ecology and stressed strategies to cope with climate change, such as regional prioritization, feeding local needs, best use and management of ecosystem, strengthen supply and process chains, fueling viability and competitiveness, and integrated area development.
The activity also included an exhibit of applied green technologies.
The activity is one of the features of the 2011 Philippine Environment Month with theme: Nature at your service, jointly organized by the Environmental Management Bureau-7, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 and Pollution Control Association of the Philippines-7. (FREEMAN)
