MedTech's car burglarized at hospital parking lot

CEBU, Philippines - A staff member of the Perpetual Succour Hospital lost her bag to unidentified burglars who broke into her car last Thursday afternoon.

Bernadette Castro, 30, a medical technologist, said he parked her Toyota Vios at the hospital’s parking lot around 2pm and discovered three hours later that its rear side window was already broken. She also found out that her sling bag was already missing. The bag contained her wallet with P1,600 cash and assorted cards, including a company identification card, driver’s license, Social Security System ID, TIN ID, ATM cards, credit card, and reward card; a gift check worth P17,000, a laptop and charger, keys, and important papers.

Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, chief of the city police Theft and Robbery Section, said they are looking into the possibility that the young men on board a multicab parked beside the victim’s car may have been the perpetrators. Based on initial investigation, the multicab arrived shortly after Castro parked her car.

The security guards manning the parking lot reportedly did not notice any untoward incident during their watch.

Garciano urged car owners and drivers not to leave any valuables inside their parked vehicles. He said car burglary has been rampant lately, particularly in Mandaue City.

“Kay kanang mga kawatan, mu-lili na sila sa imong sakyanan bisan tinted. Nya kung wa sila’y makit-an sa sulod na pwede nila makawat, nganong buk-on man nila ang bintana,” he said. — (FREEMAN)
