Capitol bares top 20 LGU finalists of E-GWEN

CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol has bared the top 20 local government units in the third year of the implementation of the Expanded-Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (E-GWEN), a project of the Province of Cebu and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.

However, the top performing cities, municipalities and barangays still has to undergo the on-going final evaluation wherein top three barangays per city and municipality will be chosen to compete for the top 10 barangays province-wide.

The 20 LGUs are San Francisco in Camotes, Tabuelan, Barili, Toledo City, Bantayan, Oslob, Liloan, Catmon, Dalaguete, Argao, Tudela, Carcar City, Cordova, Boljoon, Aloguinsan, Madridejos, Bogo City, Borbon, Dumanjug and Tuburan.

RAFI Executive Director for Integrated Development, Ruth Rowena Alinsonorin, said the result was based on the second round of evaluation.

The criteria include cleanliness, sanitation and health; greening, protection and enhancement of the environment; creativity, artistry and aesthetic impact; appreciation, promotion and nurturing culture and heritage; and governance systems and structures.

Among the topnotchers in the cleanliness, sanitation and health are the barangays Valladolid in Carcar City and San Vicente in Liloan.

For the greening, protection and enhancement of the environment are the barangays of Valladolid in Carcar City, General Climaco in Toledo City, Poblacion in Santa Fe, Cajel in Borbon and Oboob in Bantayan.

For the creativity, artistry and aesthetic impact are the barangays of San Isidro in San Francisco, Valladolid in Carcar City, Villahermosa in Tudela, General Climaco in Toledo City, Panangban in Compostela and Bolocboloc in Barili.

For the preservation of heritage are the barangays of San Isidro in San Fracisco, Valladolid in Carcar City, Santo Rosario in Bogo City and Panangban in Compostela.

The awarding for the top three barangays in the city and municipal levels will be held on July 31 with the prizes of P150,000; P100,000 and P50,000 for the first, second and third, respectively.

The awardees shall compete with the 10 barangay exemplary awards for the entire Province of Cebu and the awarding will be in August 15, as one of the activities of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2011.

The Best E-GWEN Highway top performers will be awarded in December 2011.

The Provincial Government will also be giving an award to the District Engineering Office that is able to maintain a national highway well. — (FREEMAN)
