Farmer kills self by setting house on fire
CEBU, Philippines - A man committed suicide by trapping himself inside his house and setting it on fire last Friday night in Alcantara town.
The victim was identified as Wilfredo Toquero, 24, of Barangay Poblacion, Alcantara, Cebu.
The house is said to be made of light materials, the damage of the said incident was estimated at P40,000
According to the father of the victim Sergio Toquero, 49, he had an argument with his son before the incident over where to plant sweet potatoes on their lot.
According to neighbors the victim borrowed rope from them before the incident, although it was not clear what he eventually used it for.
It was only later that they found out that the house was already burning with Wilfredo still inside.
It had burned down by the time his father and the policemen arrived.
Sergio said he cannot believe his son committed suicide over their argument about the sweet potatoes and believes he was hiding a deeper problem. - (THE FREEMAN)
