900 marijuana stalks uprooted in Tuburan

CEBU, Philippines - Military operatives have uprooted 900 stalks of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings in a secluded barangay of Tuburan last Wednesday.

A team from the Charlie Company of the 78th Infantry Battalion led by 1Lt. Eric Pidazo was conducting a routinary patrol operation at Sitio Liki, Barangay Kaorasan at 8:30 a.m. when they chanced upon a marijuana plantation.

Pidazo’s team uprooted 400 fully-grown marijuana plants and 500 seedlings were also seized by the team. The illegal plants were turned over by the military personnel to the Tuburan Police Station. No one was arrested during the operation.

The police are still investigating to identify the cultivator and the owner of the lot where the plantation was found.

The 400 stalks of marijuana plants are estimated to be worth P80,000. The police have yet to determine the street value of the 500 seedlings.—(FREEMAN)
