5 arrested for Nubain possession

CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested five people, including a couple, after four ampules of Nubain and at least 27 assorted disposable syringes were seized from their possession last Thursday night.

Placed under arrest were Lino Castañares, 46; his reported girlfriend Carmen Patlingrao, 41; Clifford Cabrera, 28; Ricardo Resuento, 43; and Patricio Pacaña, 34. All of them are residents of Barangay Bulacao.

Operatives of the City Intelligence Branch and the Barangay Peace-keeping Action Team of the Cebu City Police Office were conducting a saturation drive in Bulacao when they spotted the suspects outside a house at past 10pm.

Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, who heads CIB, said Resuento was on the act of injecting the illegal drugs into his body when they arrested him.

Santander described Castañares as a level two drug pusher who can dispose off 200 grams of shabu every week.

Santander said the operation was part of BPAT’s campaign against illegal drugs. The team conducts a saturation drive in a barangay per day. Santander said they started the operation in Bulacao and will move on to other barangays in the south.

Among those considered to be “infested” with illegal drugs are Barangays Ermita, Kamagayan, and Pasil.

The suspects, who are now detained, will be charged with possession of illegal drugs, a non-bailable offense. (FREEMAN)
