CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Commission for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) will be coming up with a module with child-sensitive language to be used in teaching children the basics of morality.
Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, PCWC co-chairperson, said there is really a need to go back to the values of children from the lowest grade in school since victims could be as young as three years old.
The decision stemmed from the cybersex problem that cropped up after the arrest of a couple in Cordova town who made their children pose naked for the internet for fees.
Provincial Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy also proposed for barangay captains to activate sitio-level organizations and hold localized seminars on the moral recovery program to combat child pornography not only in Cordova but in the entire Province of Cebu.
Sitoy’s father, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy, earlier said the town will pass an ordinance that will compel teachers to teach basic morality in schools as one of the solutions against the cyber-pornography problem in their town.
Mayor Sitoy proposed a regular meeting among the teachers, parents and students to instill values among the youth.
But Magpale said an information drive on such issue for the children needs to be carefully dealt with, especially in the use of appropriate language for them to understand.
The proposal of Sitoy came after he attended a meeting with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Provincial Women’s Commission.
Among the solutions that they see to solve cyber pornography in Cordova is to implement livelihood program for the people.
They also agreed on a rewards system to encourage people to report any illegal activity, especially cybersex.
Operatives of the NBI in coordination with the United States Department of Homeland Security raided a house in Cordova the other week resulting in the arrest of a couple who were using their children in cybersex.
The couple, who are already facing charges for qualified trafficking, sold their five minor children to foreign customers on the web.
On Monday, Board Member Sitoy will sponsor a resolution commending the NBI-7, Magpale, PWC and the Municipality of Cordova for being instrumental in the arrest. (FREEMAN)
