Goat causes bike accident: 1 dead
CEBU, Philippines - A man riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed after the driver lost control of the vehicle trying to avoid a goat that strayed into the highway last Monday afternoon in Barangay Bulok-Bulok, Barili town.
Viviano Cubar, 48, of Barangay Nasipit, Barili, was rushed to the Barili District Hospital due to serious head injuries but later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where he was declared dead.
The driver of the motorcycle, Arturo Delorazo, 42, of Barangay Minolo, is now detained in the Barili police stockade.
Police said the two were on a Honda XRM motorcycle with license plate numbers IM-8704 heading to Barangay Nasipit from Barangay Poblacion.
When they reached Bulok-Bulok, a goat suddenly crossed the highway causing Delorazo to lose control and the vehicle crashed. Cubar’s head hit the pavement hard.
A witness alleged that Delorazo failed to apply brakes when the goat was about to cross.
“Wa siguro siya magtuo nga mulabang ang kanding,” he said.
Delorazo, who only sustained minor injuries, rushed his passenger to the hospital.
SPO2 Saldy Orillo said the owner of the goat is also liable for the accident but they failed to trace its owner.
“Ang kanding wala na ngadto nakasibat napud pero way mutug-an kung kinsay tag-iya,” Orillo said. – (FREEMAN)
