Cebu barangays receive financial assistance

-

CEBU, Philippines - The 51 chapters of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Cebu province received yesterday their share from the P2 million given by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to the Federation of Association of Barangay Councils.

Garcia, assisted by FABC president, Board Member Jose Ribomapil Holganza, led the turnover of checks to Liga presidents at the Capitol.

Each Liga president received a little over of P39,000 after the P2 million was divided among 51 chapters, including the Mandaue City ABC. The ABCs of the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu are not part of the federation.

The money will be used for different projects of each chapter.

Garcia congratulated Holganza for heeding her request that the money be returned to the people in the barangays.

PhilHealth cards for the 1,093 barangay captains in the province were also turned over yesterday.

The premiums of the PhilHealth coverage – amounting to P1,200 per year for each barangay captain – are charged to the Legislative Assistance Fund of Holganza.

After the distribution, Garcia announced that she would again give another P2 million to the FABC through Holganza.

Holganza said the next assistance will be used to construct a building that will be used for officials visiting Cebu City.

He said that the P600 per diem a day is not enough to cover food and lodging for barangay captains from far places.

During yesterday’s general membership meeting, FABC approved a resolution requesting Garcia and the Provincial Board for financial assistance for the project. —(FREEMAN)
