Mandaue celebrates "Industrial Peace Month"

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Labor and the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council of Mandaue City culminated the month-long “Industrial Peace Month” by giving awards to various city-based companies who joined their sports festival, with softdrink giant Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc.-Cebu Plant emerging as the overall champion.

Lawyer Hidelito Pascual, Mandaue City sports commission chairman, said the city is always working towards industrial peace and is inviting companies to join the sports festival as one way of achieving such goal.

“We have observed that every year, many new companies are joining the sports festival. This is a positive result,” said Pascual during the culminating and awarding ceremony held at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex the other night.

The Tripartite Industrial Peace Council or TIPC provides a venue for peaceful negotiations between labor and management groups with the City Government acting as a neutral party.

Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said that the city government as well as the City Council is supportive of this endeavor and have provided funds to make the festival a success.

Ann Trasmonte, human resource manager of this year’s overall champion, said they will continue to support the city’s programs and projects.

Clear Export Industries Inc. was first runner-up while beer giant San Miguel Brewery, Inc. was the second runner-up.

The sports festival has six different games including volleyball for men and women, table tennis, dama, badminton and bowling.

The other 13 companies who joined the event and were given certificates of appreciation were the Cebu Furniture Support, FMC Biopolymer, Ginebra San Miguel Inc., HJR, Lucky Tableware Inc., Mandaue Foam Industries Inc. Pacific Traders and Manufacturing Corp., Philcoil Industries, SMC Shipping Litherage, Yamamura Packaging Corp., Sunpride Foods Inc, Shemberg Marketing Corp. and Treasure Island Industrial Corp.

The Mandaue City Police Office and the Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School also joined the said event. — (FREEMAN)
