Two dead in frat violence

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed in separate shooting incidents involving warring fraternities in Toledo City last Thursday.

In Barangay Cantabaco around 1 a.m., an Alpha Kappa Rho member was shot dead allegedly by members of rival fraternity Tau Gamma Phi in Sitio Masaba.

Lamberto Mirasol, 22, was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound in his right ear and a stab wound in the right side of his chest.

He was rushed to the Carmen Copper Corp. Hospital in Barangay DAS but he was declared dead on arrival.

PO3 Alfredo Barquin, Lutopan police investigator said Mirasol was attending a disco in Cantabaco when Tau Gamma members Kelvin Mayo and Stephen Caballero, arrived and kept an eye on him.

After the lights and the music died due to a power shortage Mirasol went out of the dance area. This was when witnesses said they then heard a gunshot.

A few minutes later when the lights came back on Mirasol was already lying on the ground.

Police said they recovered a kitchen knife allegedly used by one of the assailants and a .22 cal. pistol owned by Mirasol.

Around 8 p.m. that same day Caballero, of Barangay Lutopan, and one of the alleged assailants of Mirasol, was shot in Barangay DAS Village.

A motorcycle driver tried to take him to the Carmen Copper Corp. Hospital but he died minutes later.

The driver said, while they were on their way to the hospital Caballero suddenly fell from his motorcycle.

Police said they are looking into different angles into the killing.

“Dili lang frat-related kay daghan pud nang kontra bataa,” Barquin said.

Meanwhile, in Sibonga town, a barangay councilman had to undergo surgery after he was shot from behind and the bullet lodged in his nape.

Silmar, Celada, 28, a councilman of Barangay Cantularoy, was drinking with his friends in a house in Barangay Papan about 2:30 p.m. when he felt the call of nature and relieved himself near a Kamansi tree.

His friends said they hear several gunshots and went out to check and saw Celada wounded. One of them also said they saw a certain Butch Carl Clarion running away from the crime scene.

Celada was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
