CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) and four other schools in Cebu City and Talisay City were able to produce eight successful topnotchers in the recent licensure examinations for teachers, criminology and civil engineer.

Riza Mae Rule gave honor to UV when she grabbed eighth place in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) as announced by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) early this week.

Rule and Mary Kaye Misa from the Talisay City College and Luzbel Kris Villanueva from the Cebu Normal University (CNU) tied in the eighth place with their 83.2 percent rating.

Meanwhile, Crisanto Teaño and Sesaldo Mendaros, both of the University of San Carlos (USC) also landed third and eighth, respectively, in the licensure examination for teachers, but in the secondary level.

Three other fresh graduates from the University of Cebu and USC were also topnotchers in the recent Civil Engineer and Criminology Licensure Examinations conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission.

Keir Panimdim of the University of Cebu landed in the third place while Hana Astrid Canseco of the University of San Carlos ranked seventh in the Civil Engineer Licensure Examinations conducted last week.

The first placer in the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination is Bryan Dela Cruz from the University of the Philippines (UP-Los Baños) and Ruben Llagas Jr. of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, while second placer is Miguel Clemente of FEU-East Asia College.

UC graduate Dave Jay Olvenerio, 20, of Danao City also gave Cebu a pride when he landed second in the Criminology Licensure Examination conducted last week.

UC President Augusto Go will give cash prizes to Olvenerio and Panimdim and offered them teaching jobs at the university. Panimdim, 21, single from barangay Tangke in Talisay City graduated magna cum laude last March and tried his luck by immediately taking the licensure examination ahead of his other classmates in civil engineering.

“Naninguha lang g’yud ko nga makapasar pero wala ko magdahum nga maapil ko sa topnotchers,” Panimdim said.

Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete, a member of the PRC Board of Engineering, said the successful examinees are scheduled to take their oath on June 18, 2011 at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. (FREEMAN)
