CEBU, Philippines - Jovita Ouano, the former president of Association of Barangay Councils in Mandaue City, posted P30,000-bail for the eight counts of estafa filed against her.
She is the sister of former mayor of Mandaue City mayor and now Provincial Board Member Thadeo “Teddy” Ouano.
Prosecutor Simaco Labata elevated the complaint against Ouano after he found probable cause to indict Ouano for estafa.
Labata recommended the bail bond for Ouano, whose estafa cases ranged from P42,000 to P52,000.
The complainant was her friend Clarita Boligor, a resident of sitio Star Apple, barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.
Boligor filed the complaint before Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
She said Ouano borrowed money from her in exchange for a post-dated check.
Boligor said Ouano called her eight times to borrow money in exchange for the check amounting P341,000.
“She assured me that the same is funded and would be good when presented for payment on its maturity date,” Boligor said.
Boligor added that Ouano assured her she has money from her share of the properties of her parents in Mango Avenue and Opao, Mandaue City which would be more than enough to satisfy her obligations.
However, when all checks were deposited to her account, Boligor discovered that the account of Ouano was closed.
Boligor said she wanted to settle the problem with Ouano who is her friend but the latter kept avoiding her. One time, Ouano told her that she will pay if their family’s property in Mango Avenue would be sold.
But when Boligor asked Teddy, she learned that Jovita already received her share worth P2 million.
Because of Ouano’s refusal to pay, she was forced to secure the services of a lawyer and send demand letters three times.
But Ouano refused to pay and just told her, “We will just see each other in court.” (FREEMAN)
