CEBU, Philippines - A 75-year-old farmer is now facing rape charges for allegedly sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Marmol, Tuburan Saturday afternoon.

Arrested by barangay tanods and now detained at Tuburan police stockade is Rafael Ubas, neighbor of the victim.

Barangay Councilor Letecia Gabilon, 49, who reported the incident to the police station, alleged the victim was raped by the suspect inside his house.

The incident was allegedly witnessed by the victim’s uncle, Rodolfo Laurel, 55, who happened to pass by the house of the suspect.

SPO3 Jose Relampagos said the suspect reportedly invited the victim to go to his house as he was going to give her a surprise.

“Suod na siya sa pamilya ug sa biktima maong nisalig ang ginikanan niya,” Relampagos told The FREEMAN.

When the victim arrived at the suspect’s house, he gave allegedly gave her a piece of bread and told her to have a snack but she allegedly became unconscious giving him the opportunity to rape her.

Laurel, who happened to pass by, noticed that the windows and the door of the suspect’s house were locked which was allegedly a very unusual thing to happen. This prompted him to peep through the wall and saw Ubas raping his niece.

Laurel immediately went to the house of the victim and reported to her parents what he saw.

The victim’s parents then called barangay tanods Felix Capalac and Junito Capalac who arrested the suspect inside his house.

The girl was brought to the town’s Rural Health Unit for a checkup and attending physician confirmed she was raped.

Barangay tanods turned over the suspect to the police who are now preparing the rape charge to be filed against the suspect. — (FREEMAN)
