Two cabbies robbed separately
CEBU, Philippines -Two taxi drivers were separately robbed in Mandaue City and in Carcar City over the weekend.
Bernabe Peña, 40, resident of Barangay Valencia, Carcar City lost his P2,670 earnings after two unidentified robbers preyed on him in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City early in the morning yesterday.
Peña went to Police Station 3 in Barangay Basak to report the incident.
He narrated that about 4:45 in the morning, while he was driving his Mandarin Arrow taxi with plate numbers GXP 557, two unidentified men flagged him down in Barangay Looc near a certain university.
The two allegedly asked him to bring them to Barangay Paknaan near a feeds factory.
But while they were already nearing their destination, the “passengers,” one of them armed with a knife and another with a hand gun, declared a holdup, demanding for his earnings.
After Peña handed over his money, the suspects hurriedly disembarked and fled on foot towards unknown direction.
In Carcar City, Victoriano Deiparene, 54, of Barangay Rosario, Aloguinsan also lost his P2,200 earnings and his cellular phone to an unidentified suspect Saturday evening in Barangay Can-asujan.
Deiparene said the suspect rode his taxicab (GXG 799) at the Cebu South Bus Terminal and asked to be transported to San Fernando town.
When they reached Barangay Can-asujan, the victim said the passenger asked him to make a right turn towards a corner but the latter suddenly poked a knife at him and declared the heist.
Police said they tried to chase the suspect after they received a telephone call from a concerned citizen regarding the incident but failed to arrest him after he ran towards the mountainous area of the barangay. — (FREEMAN)
