Wanted ex-cop surrenders

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - After almost four years of being in hiding, a female former police officer who is tagged as one of the suspects in the killing of neighbor during a “mahjong” in Sitio Himongbongan, Barangay Taloot, Argao surrendered yesterday morning.

Ex-police officer Virgilia Albaraccin surrendered in Argao Police Station at 7:35 in the morning upon the advice of her lawyer, Atty. Noel Archival, for them to work on the motion to dismiss the case filed against her and her husband, Sammy Albaraccin.

A murder case was filed against the couple at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Argao police chief Wilfredo Parrilla told The Freeman that Albaraccin was also advised by her brother SPO3 Esteban Albuera to surrender.

The former police officer said she has been transferring houses from day to day and has been visiting her family at night time only.

“Wala ra man gyud ni siya ingon nilayo kay naa iyang mga anak sa iyang parents,” Parrilla said.

The Albarraccins were tagged as suspects in killing Alejandro Caminade on September 9, 2007.

Sammy who surrendered to the police earlier, and his wife, who used to be assigned at Argao Police Station, already had a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Maximo Perez on October 18, 2010. No bail was recommended for their temporary liberty.

Virgilia was also assigned at Sibonga Police Station but was dismissed from service after she was tagged in the killing and remained at large for almost four years.

In the evening of September 9, 2007, Sammy allegedly shot to death Alejandro Caminade who was playing "mahjong" at the house of Marinel Caminade, his neighbor.

Sammy reportedly approached the victim and shot him to the head, causing his immediate death. Witnesses said that after the shooting, the suspect fled.

After the warrant of arrest was issued, Sammy surrendered but Virgilia went on hiding and police failed in locating her.

“Wala na siya’y choice karon kay dili man malihok nila ang ilang motion og dili siya mopakita,” Parrilla said. – (FREEMAN)
