Robber kills man under the Mactan bridge

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A man was killed and another was injured in separate robbery incidents in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday.

A man was killed by three unidentified robbers when he tried to fight back as they robbed him and his girlfriend.

The couple was dating under the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge in barangay Pajo about 3:00 a.m. when the three men came and declared a hold up.

A certain Danny Boy, a native of Consolacion, Cebu died from several stab wounds in his back and head. His 22-year-old girlfriend from barangay Pusok ran towards the slum area for help.

Police Officer 2 John Carlo Jocutan said the couple was dating in a dim and grassy portion under the bridge when suspects declared hold up. Danny Boy tried to fight back, prompting the robbers to stab him several times in the different parts of his body.

The men took his wallet and cell phone before fleeing on foot.

Jocutan said the victim’s girlfriend refused to say anything.

“Sige ra siya og hilak di motingog, maayo nalang wala ra pud siya hilabti,” Jocutan said. (She just kept on crying and would not say anything.)

Meanwhile, six men robbed two brothers who were on their way to an early morning mass at barangay Kinalumsan yesterday.

Machuren Bastida, 23, sustained multiple stab wounds in his back after one of the men stabbed him when he tried to run for help.

His brother, 38-year-old Crispolo Bastida was hurt in the neck after one of the robbers tried to strangle him.

Police Officer 2 John Carlo Jocutan said the two were about to take a ride to attend a mass in Iglesia ni Cristo Church when they were robbed. One of the robbers strangled Crispolo while the others acted as back up.

Crispolo asked his brother to run for help but the five other men ran after Machuren and stabbed him several times.

A passerby saw the incident and called for police assistance.

Two of the six men were arrested - Christopher Oyao and Mark Joseph Oyao, both 22 years old. Both were from sitio Locatha, barangay Looc.

The two suspects were taken to the Lapu-Lapu Police stockade while Machuren is undergoing treatment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. —(FREEMAN)
