CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will speak before thousands of graduates of the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Batangas City today.
LPU president Peter Laurel invited Garcia to be the commencement speaker of the event that will be held at Dodjie Laurel Gymnasium in Batangas City.
“Knowing your commitment to the education sector particularly your concern for the Filipinos, I am certain that your message will inspire not only our graduates but the whole LPU community as well,” Laurel said in his invitation letter to the governor.
This year’s batch of graduates are from the College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, Allied Medical Profession, College of Computer Studies, College of Criminology and the College of Engineering.
Laurel said they are expecting at least 2,000 to attend the event.
LPU has four other campuses located in Manila, Makati, Laguna and Cavite.
LPU-Batangas is the region’s first autonomous university with school-wide international certification.
The university is a tertiary educational institution established in 1966, which envisions itself to be the center for academic excellence in the country and in the Asia Pacific Region.
It was established by former Senator Sotero H. Laurel, along with three prominent women of Batangas namely, Belen Castillo, Criselda Castillo and Pascuala Tolentino as a realization of the dream of former President Dr. Jose P. Laurel to make quality education available to the provinces.
Through a linkage with the LPU Manila in Intramuros, Manila, Lyceum Batangas was set to reality. In a 2.2 hectare of land beside the Provincial Capitol of Batangas, the first building of the Institution was started with the construction of the first building named the Mabini Hall (after Apolinario Mabini, one of the sons of Batangas). The second building was the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Building, which housed the college departments. (FREEMAN)
