LTO warns vs. Holy Week traffic Violations

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines -  The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will deploy more law enforcers in the national highways starting next week to apprehend drivers of vehicles carrying more than the allowed number of passengers.

LTO 7 Assistant Director Arnel Tancinco said their law enforcers have been ordered to intensify the operations against overloading, colorum vehicles and public utility vehicles that operate outside the routes stated in their franchises.

Tancinco said the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 will also assign personnel at public PUV terminals to issue special franchises for public utility vehicles that want to ply outside their original routes during Wednesday, Thursday and on Friday.

Aside from the LTO organic personnel, Tancinco said they will also tap the services of the LTO Task Force Alpha in apprehending violators.

According to Tancinco, he and LTO-7 Director Raul Aguilos had agreed to deploy their personnel in the highways instead of the terminals.

“Kun anha sa terminal nato ibutang ang atong mga law enforcers natural dili g’yud mopasakay ang mga drayber og subra nga pasahero pero adto na sila mopasakay og subra sa ilang capacity sa highway,” Tancinco told The FREEMAN.

The operation against overloading is part of ensuring the safety of the people who go home to their hometowns for the long holidays, he said.

In case of accidents, insurance companies will not shoulder the medical and other expenses of passengers who are in excess of the vehicle’s capacity, particularly those without tickets. (FREEMAN)
