Yeung calls for donations to help beautify Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines -  Philanthropist Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung, head of Cebu City’s “super beautification program,” is appealing to all Cebuanos to donate funds for the beautification project.

In a meeting with the officers of the project Wednesday night, Yeung said “no one is ever too small or too poor not to be able to give something of himself.”

“Instead of criticizing Cebu, let us do something. We can do it, if we work together. The City Government cannot do this alone. I cannot do this alone. Each Cebuano must do his share,” Yeung said. 

Yeung and her team of women from various sectors are tasked to raise millions for the beautification project which includes lighting the trees, installing lampposts and the concreting with bricks of the sidewalks of Osmeña Boulevard down to Sanciangko St., including the center island.

The beautification group wants to complete the project in time for Christmas.

They agreed on fund-raising projects like concert for a cause with Cebuano celebrities including concert king, Martin Nievera. They also plan to hold a fashion show for a cause and auction sales, among others.

“We need funds for this project because we all know the government simply lacks resources to do such huge task,” Yeung said.

The project will be officially launched with the campaign slogan, “Beautiful Cebu!” The activity will include a walkathon from Plaza Independencia to the Provincial Capitol building.

Yeung said that the walkathon would make participants see the situation of our sidewalks.

“Let us work hand in hand and help the government. We need you to be our partner in this endeavor. If we work together and put our resources together, we can make a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters in our beautiful Cebu,” she said.

Yeung initially donated P1 million to start the project and hopes other concerned groups, individuals and companies will help. (FREEMAN)
