City government gives P1.5 M to ERUF

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government and the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation have signed a memorandum of agreement for the P1.5 million donation of the city to ERUF for the purchase of rescue equipment.

This amount is on top of the P3 million that the city government is granting the foundation annually as its counterpart for the latter’s 24-hour emergency service.

The equipment will upgrade ERUF’s life-saving capability. These include a life detector camera.

The donation is timely since ERUF is sending a 12-man team to help in the rescue operations in Japan.

Dr. Pek Eng Lim, ERUF chairman, said some of their paramedics have been trained abroad so they can be relied upon in any emergency situation.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the city government will continue supporting ERUF in its efforts to continue to uplift its quality and standards.

ERUF has gone a long way and has in fact received various awards.

The MOA provides a condition that the equipment be used in actual search and operation of ERUF, which includes trainings, exhibit display, rescue drills and exercises and major disaster response operation, “with the Cebu City as first in its priority.”

Lim thanked the city government for the continuous assistance. –(FREEMAN)
