CEBU, Philippines - A 38-year-old farmer was shot dead Saturday morning by a minor in Barangay Kan-an Tuburan, Cebu.
His anger towards the victim since three years ago drove a 16-year-old boy, name withheld, to kill his neighbor Apolinario Paring.
The suspect allegedly met Paring at the brook near their respective houses and shot the latter without any provocation using an unknown caliber of firearm. The victim tried to seek help from the neighborhood but died before he could be brought to the hospital.
Barangay Councilman Tomas Dictahan said the victim sustained single gunshot wound in the back causing his death. The suspect immediately fled from the place.
Paring’s wife, Juana, said that suspect has been harboring ill feelings towards her husband since three years ago. According to her, the suspect and her son had a fight over an improvised scooter locally known as “kariton” three years ago.
The suspect reportedly got jealous of her son’s “kariton” and wanted to have it. Juana said the suspect went to their house three years ago armed with a bolo looking for her son.
Since the suspect, who was only 13-years old then, was armed with bolo, it was her husband who faced the suspect. Juana said her husband then told the suspect to go home and not to pick a fight with a child.
She said they did not know that the suspect harbored ill-feelings towards her husband since then. — (FREEMAN)
