Search on for best LGUs in planning and budgeting

- Mellanie Joy C. Rosales -

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of the Interior and Local Government, in collaboration with the National Economic and Development Authority, the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Finance with the support of the German Development Cooperation Decentralization Program, has come up with an incentive program for effective local planning and budgeting.

The program entitled “Search for Best LGUs in Planning and Budgeting” is set to give recognition to LGUs with commendable practices in local planning and budgeting. The search will be divided into two categories; best city and best municipality.

DILG-7 Director Pedro Noval said that Region 7 is the first region to implement the search.

“I have foreseen that what we will be implementing will be replicated to all other regions. We will be the model of the implementation of this program,” Noval said.

Noval said that there is a need to ensure successful implementation of the program so the other regions will be inspired to do the same. The success stories of the program will be submitted to the central office so that the top management will also be encouraged to direct other regional offices to implement the same program in their respective regions.

The program will give recognition to LGUs that have shown exemplary performance in planning and budgeting. It will also help LGUs improve governance and service delivery as well as strengthen collaboration between and among partner agencies and stakeholders in pursuit of improved local planning and budgeting. – (FREEMAN)
