CCCI to help Capitol improve roads

-

CEBU, Philippines - Some members of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry whose businesses will be affected by the proposed load limit in the provincial roads offered to help the Capitol in upgrading the roads.

CCCI President Samual Chioson met with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to discuss solutions that will be acceptable to both parties.

Chioson said some of their members who have businesses located in certain localities outside Cebu City will be affected by the 10-ton load limit in the provincial roads. The areas are Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Danao City, Minglanilla, Naga, Sibonga, San Fernando, Cordova, Balamban, Talisay City, Carcar City, Toledo City, Alcoy and Argao.

Garcia said some of these areas have no provincial roads. She asked Chioson to identify in particular what are the companies and which particular sections of provincial roads are being used by them.

“For this specific road, we will be able to discuss in a more mutually beneficial manner on how we shall be able to come with win-win solution between the provincial government’s thrust to maintain the structural integrity of the road so as not to continue wasting taxpayers money because of overloading,” Garcia said.

The governor said the concerns of business sectors as to the impact on their operation will also be balanced.

“There must be a way that we can balance both interests and come up with a solution that is acceptable to both and to all,” Garcia said.

One of the possible solutions being considered is the sharing of expenses in the road maintenance as what Chioson suggested.

But the CCCI president said he still has to talk to locators affected by the load limit.

He said they may also help in the upgrading of provincial roads which Garcia welcomed. (FREEMAN)
