Training on autism slated today

CEBU, Philippines - The Autism Society of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter is inviting parents, teachers, caregivers and other individuals to a Skills Training and Employment Activity for persons with autism today at the SM City Conference Room.

Held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the event will have Yolanda Michelle Bautista, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Studies with a master’s degree in Special Education at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, as speaker.

A director of The Learning Center (TLC) Inc., Bautista’s thesis, “Factors Related to Work Transition for Persons with Special Needs,” has been published in the Research Journal in Special Education and Independent Living.

Onsite registration charges P700, which will include the certificate and handouts.

On April 5 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., a seminar entitled “Managing Your Child with Autism” will also be held at the same venue.

Issues on behavior modification, sensory integration and overview of aquatic therapy, speech as well as communication therapy will be discussed.

This activity is organized by the Responsive Education for Autistic Children or REACH, the only therapy center in Cebu City that caters to the special learning needs of children with autism.
