Fire razes warehouse in Guadalupe

CEBU, Philippines - A fire broke out and almost consumed a warehouse that houses lighting materials in Modesta Street, Barangay Guadalupe early yesterday morning.

Fire Office 3 Alvin Mangubat said the fire, which lasted for an hour, reportedly started right at CTS Lightings owned by one Candy Chan. Damage was estimated at P500,000.

The warehouse contained various florescent bulbs and other lighting materials.

Luckily, the four people who were sleeping inside the warehouse when the fire broke out were able to escape to safety. Mangubat identified them as Mildred Estrada and her four young children. It was not clear, however, if they are related to the owner and why they were sleeping inside the warehouse.

The fire department received the alarm at 3:17 am. Firemen on board six fire trucks controlled the blaze in eight minutes. The fire was totally put out by 4:22 am, Mangubat said.

FO2 Emiliano Daño, Jr. said they are still investigating the cause of the fire. —(FREEMAN)
