Student nabbed in drug buy-bust

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A fourth-year high school student of the San Remigio National High School was arrested during a buy-bust operation last Monday morning for selling marijuana sticks inside the school.

Mark Lester Fariolen, 18, a resident of Barangay Hagnaya, San Remigio, is now detained at the San Remigio Police Station stockade.

Police confiscated from him 19 sticks of rolled marijuana leaves and P280 in different denominations including the three P20 bills used as buy-bust money.

Police revealed that a teacher of the school went to the police station and reported about Fariolen whom she said was selling illegal drugs.

The teacher alleged that one of his students who bought a marijuana stick from the suspect confessed about Fariolen’s activities.

The operation led by Sr. insp. Jose Villarin was carried out around 11:25 a.m. before morning class dismissal.

Police Officer 1 Brendo Mendoyos, who acted as a poseur-buyer, immediately approached Fariolen after he was sighted by the policemen.

Right after the exchange of items Fariolen was handcuffed by the policemen and brought to the police station.

Fariolen was a transferee student from the Bantayan National High School.

He revealed that a certain “Junjun” Cabahug from Barangay Hagnaya served as his source of the marijuana sticks which he sold inside the campus for P10 each.

Violation of Section 5 Article II of Republic Act 9165 against the suspect was already filed yesterday at the Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Bogo City.

Meanwhile, illegal drugs amounting to around P6,000 as well as drug paraphernalia were confiscated from Elourde Sanchez, 52, a resident of Sitio Pandayan, Barangay Poblacion Occidental, Consolacion town, last Monday afternoon.

The suspect’s arrest was made following the serving of a search warrant issued by Judge Marilyn Yap of the Mandaue Regional Trial Court Branch 52 last Friday.

Confiscated from the suspect were 12 small transparent plastic packs, a medium pack and a large pack of illegal drugs, three aluminum foil strips, four empty plastic packs, an improvised tooter, three disposable lighters, a cutter blade, a pair of scissor, plastic containers, five P50 bills, 15 P20 bills, a brown wallet and three cellular phones.

The drugs recovered were submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory in Camp Sotero Cabahug for chemical analysis.

Sanchez is now detained at the Consolacion Police Station stockade. –(FREEMAN)
