CCTV helps arrest motorcycle thief
CEBU, Philippines - A surveillance camera has led to the arrest of a notorious motorcycle thief in Barangay Apas.
The video footage taken from the closed-circuit television installed in an establishment in Barangay Sta. Cruz where an XRM motorcycle owned by Fairy Chiu Yu was carnapped helped the police to arrest Rene Englis.
Englis, 42, resident of Barangay Apas was arrested by the operatives of the Theft and Robbery Section of the Cebu City Police Office yesterday morning.
The footage shows Englis standing beside the motorcycle pretending to be texting somebody. However, minutes later he was already seen driving the motorcycle.
TRS chief Bonifacio Garciano said a member of the Barangay Intelligence Network identified Englis through the footage. A hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted resulting to his arrest.
Englis admitted stealing the motorcycle few days ago. He said he sold the motorcycle for P5,000 to Ramil Lascuna in Barangay Quiot. The motorcycle was chopped into pieces.
Some of the parts were recovered in a junkshop owned by Dingdong Abiso also in Barangay Quiot.
According to Garciano, Lascuna and Abiso will be charged separately for violation of the anti-fencing law. – (FREEMAN)
