Warden asks court: Move Dumpit out of BBRC

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Jail Warden Felixberto Jagorin testified in court yesterday that SPO1 Adonis Dumpit’s life is at “high-risk” inside the jail.

Jagorin told the court that this is his first time to ask the court to transfer a detainee to another place because he can’t assure his safety and lives are at risk.

“As a jail warden it is our duty to keep and secure the safety of our prisoners but now I can’t assure because we know Dumpit had arrested many of the prisoners detained in Cebu City Jail,” Jagorin testified.

This concern, he added, prompted them to send a letter addressed to the court asking that Dumpit be transferred to another detention cell.

Jagorin said he already spoke with the jail warden of Talisay City for the Dumpit’s transfer. For him, Talisay is a safe place for Dumpit because there are a few detainees there.

However, Regional Trial Court Judge Ester Veloso said she wants to hear first from Talisay City Jail Warden Chief Inspector Renante Rubio for clarification.

Veloso said she wants to hear from the jail warden of Talisay because she doesn’t want another move to transfer Dumpit for safety purposes.

Veloso added that in her 11 years as a judge, this is her first time to hear a jail warden complaining that he could not secure the prisoners.

“We cannot assure the safety of Dumpit because upon our inquiry, the boyores, mayor and mayores inside each cell said they cannot assure if Dumpit will be safe,” Jagorin said.

He added they won’t give any special treatment to Dumpit. There are 1,935 prisoners and 137 jail officers in the Cebu City Jail.

Jagorin added that two policemen were detained inside the jail but they were not as controversial as Dumpit.

Meanwhile, Janeth Badana, mother of Ron-ron Go who was allegedly shot by Dumpit six years ago, said she will respect the decision of the judge on Dumpit’s transfer.

However, she said, “Maybe their reason why they want Dumpit transferred to another jail is so that I cannot see and monitor him.”

Badana also asked why the jail warden could not secure Dumpit’s safety in the jail when he is obliged to do so because that is his job. (FREEMAN)
