Son stabs "drunk" father

CEBU, Philippines - A son stabbed his own father with a broken bottle at their house in Barangay Sangi, Toledo City last Tuesday evening.

Investigation revealed that the victim, Melchor Tundag, 48, arrived home from a drinking session and figured in a heated argument with his wife Presentacion. Their sons, Rowel, 23, and Ariel, 22, tried to pacify them, but Tundag reportedly grabbed Ariel and choked him.

Seeing what was happening, Rowel ran towards the kitchen and grabbed an empty bottle of Tanduay rhum. He then broke the bottle, and stabbed his father on the chest and nape.

Tundag was brought to the Toledo City General Hospital and was subsequently declared out of danger.

SPO3 Carmelito Hornales said Rowel surrendered voluntary and was detained overnight. However, they did not have any choice but to release him in the morning when Tundag went to the police station and said he would not pursue a case against his son.

“Hinginom gyud kuno ning amahan unya kusog manghagis pero nakahuna-huna siguro nga siya gyud ang sad-an maong wala nalang nikiha,” Hornales said. —(FREEMAN)
