Murder suspect surrenders
CEBU, Philippines - A murder suspect from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental surrendered to the village chief of barangay Taytay, Danao City last Monday evening.
Jenny Estocado, a 43-year-old man and farmer from sitio Katilingban, barangay Bagaas voluntarily surrendered to incumbent barangay captain Reynaldo Laurente. He is now detained at the Danao City Police Station.
Inspector Reyco Romaguera, officer-in-charge of the Danao Police Station, said that Estocado eluded arrest from the policemen in Bacolod City after he killed his male neighbor, Jenny de la Cruz.
Estocado and de la Cruz were drinking session last Saturday afternoon when Estocado asked de la Cruz to pay his P3,000-debt.
The two argued when de la Cruz refused to pay his debt. Angry, Estocado stabbed de la Cruz in the chest.
Estocado claimed that de la Cruz borrowed the money months ago but refused to pay his debt saying he still didn’t have enough money to pay him back.
Out of fear, Estocado rode a Ceres bus bound for Cebu. But when Estocado reached barangay Taytay, he decided to surrender to the barangay captain who turned him over to the police station.
Romaguera said they are now coordinating with the police chief of Bacolod City to verify the allegations of the suspect.
“Na-contact namo iyang igsuon, ingon nga wa kunoy kaso nga na-file but we need confirmation from the Bacolod Police Station,” he said.
The suspect may be turned over to the Bacolod Police Station for the filing of the case. – (FREEMAN)
