Dumpit worried about his safety in city jail
CEBU, Philippines - SPO1 Adonis Dumpit said although he spent a restful first night at the Cebu City Jail, concerns about his safety still bother him.
Dumpit, whose transfer of detention was approved by the court, said he trusts the jail guards to keep him safe but he still cannot help but worry about the criminals he sent to jail in this very prison.
Senior Insp. Dennis Aliño, Deputy Jail Warden for Administration at the City Jail, said they were not prepared for Dumpit’s transfer last Monday so they placed him at the Reception and Diagnostic Center which is intended for their rehabilitation program.
Aliño said there is limited access to the said center and everyone who may pass there is being monitored so Dumpit is safe. The center is also right before the tower guard.
They advised Dumpit not to wander around the basketball court inside the compound because the inmates play there everyday.
Jail officials also said they are not giving any VIP treatment to Dumpit inside the jail.
Dumpit, who has served the PNP for 19 years, was transferred last Monday to the Cebu City Jail following the order of Judge Ester Veloso of the Regional Trial Court Branch 6 granting the motion of the prosecution to transfer him there from his cell at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas. He is facing murder charges for shooting dead suspected thief Ronron Go.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama yesterday reminded the Cebu City Jail to ensure that nothing happens to Dumpit, or else Aliño might lose his position.
“They have a responsibility. They should take all the precautions. Di ko ganahan na magtaktak na sad og warden,” Rama said, “I told them do what you believe you are allowed to do by the law. On the case of Dumpit being at risk, there’s always a rule to that,” he added.
Many of the inmates were allegedly heard shouting “Ari na diri kay patyon tika,” when he entered the jail last Monday.
The controversial policeman, though, said that he is ready to die anywhere or anytime as death is inevitable. –(FREEMAN)
