Victim Involved In Drugs: Father "elated" over son's death

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged noted illegal drug user and pusher died after he was shot by an unidentified assailant in Sitio Upper Dita, Barangay Pulangbato Saturday morning.

But instead of mourning, the family of Joebert Lage, 26, was somewhat relieved by his death as he was allegedly a pain to his family when he was alive.

Obet Coca, 54, went to check his unfinished house around 5:30 a.m. and was shocked to discover Lage’s body inside. He immediately sought the assistance of the police.

Responding police officers from the Crime Scene Unit Investigation checked the victim, who was lying on his back, with gunshot wound to his chest which was believed to have caused his death.

Investigation revealed the victim was shot a few meters away from the house where his body was found.

PO3 Edario Manatad of the Homicide Section said illegal drugs was seen as the motive behind the incident.

According to him, the victim was a noted drug addict in their place and was causing his family trouble when he was alive.

“Gikalipay na lang sad sa amahan nga namatay siya kay badlungon daw gyud kaayo labi na og ma-high na na siya. Sige ra kuno og pangaway, hapit gani kuno sila magtinigbasay,” Manatad added.

The body of the victim was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy. He was believed to have been killed few hours before the discovery of his body.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
