Ceres bus runs over man

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old man, who was reportedly drunk, was ran over by a bus when he fell asleep beside the national road at barangay Poblacion, Alegria, southern Cebu.

Lino Gabale, who just came from the 40th day of prayer for his later grandfather, died immediately.

The Ceres bus bearing plate number MVH 651 was driven by Antonio Carbajosa, 38, a native of Valle Hermoso, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental and currently residing in V. Rama St., Cebu City.

The bus is now being held at the police station.

Senior Police Officer 1 Bartomiano Gargar, Alegria police investigator, disclosed that Carbajosa was from Cebu City and bound for Bato, Samboan when the right rear tire of the bus ran over Gabale.

Gabale was believed to be drunk and slept a few meters away from his house along the road.

Carbajosa was approaching a blind curve and did not notice Gabale because the place was dark. Carbajosa said he noticed when he ran over something because the bus bounced but he chose to ignore it.

Three witnesses who came from a basketball tournament were able to take the body number of the Ceres bus. They then informed the victim’s family.

Doctors stated in his death certificate that he died from massive head and chest injury.

Gargar said that Carbajosa is now detained in the Alegria police stockade after police arrested him inside their garage in Bato, Samboan.

Gargar said the victim’s family will no longer file a case against Carbajosa as burial expenses will be shouldered by Ballacar Transit Incorporated, owner of the Ceres bus. Carbajosa also assured the family that he will provide them monetary aid if the company will not shoulder all the expenses. (FREEMAN)
