CEBU, Philippines - The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) will hold its 13th National Convention of Lawyers on April 7 to 9 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.
IBP Executive Vice President and President-elect Roan Libarios said they will invite President Benigno Aquino, Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona and from the National Bench and Bar Dialogue as major guests.
He said the major part of the convention proceedings are lectures on various current legal issues by the panel of experts.
“In line with the convention theme Living Up to the Standards of Integrity and Competence in the Legal Profession, the topics line up include prosecution of human rights cases, law practice management and improving performance in the delivery of justice,” Libarios said.
The lecture is part of the IBP’s Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) program that will earn participants MCLE credits.
The biennial event is expected to draw 4,000 lawyers from the IBP’s 85 chapters nationwide.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa has issued a circular that will allow the heads of the government agencies, departments, bureaus and offices to permit their lawyers to attend the convention on official time.
A similar announcement was issued by the Supreme Court spokesperson and Court Administrator Jose Maidas Marquez for the judges, clerks of court and court lawyers.
The IBP is encouraging its members to book accommodations early from the scheduled convention in anticipation of high tourist traffic at Subic Bay Freeport during the summer season.
At present, the IBP has 50,000 members nationwide. — (FREEMAN)
