Woman dies, 3 hurt in mishaps
CEBU, Philippines - A 61-year-old woman died and her husband was injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a five-year-old kid who crossed the national highway of barangay Nangka, Balamban on Monday noon.
In another accident yesterday afternoon, a bicycle driver was injured after ramming into a car along Escario St., Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
Dead on the spot in the Balamban accident was Adelaida Bayotas, who sustained a massive head injury. Her husband Alfredo Bayotas, 71, and Joshua Artajo suffered from minor injuries. The three were from barangay San Roque, Asturias.
The black Kawasaki motorcycle bearing plate number 2323 GU driven by Bayotas was bound for barangay San Roque from barangay Poblacion when they met the accident.
Artajo just disembarked from a tricycle and crossed the street without being noticed by his mother. Alfredo applied the brakes but was too late. Artajo was hit and Alfredo lost control and slammed on the road.
Adelaida, who was not wearing a helmet, died from a head injury. Alfredo and Artajo were taken to the Balamban District Hospital but were immediately released. Alfredo was detained at the Balamban police stockade but relatives of Adelaida refused to file a case against him. He will be released after the reglamentary period.
In Cebu City yesterday afternoon, a bicycle driver was injured after he rammed into the car traveling ahead of him.
PO2 Marlon Abella identified the victim as Candelario Riconalia, 45, who resides near the place.
Abella said that Riconalia was bound downtown on his bicycle around 3 p.m. When he changed lane, the brakes of his bicycle suddenly malfunctioned.
He slammed into the rear portion of a private Honda Accord driven by one Sepe Joseph Bihagon, 35, a resident of Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City.
Due to the impact, Riconalia was thrown off the bicycle and landed at the windshield of the car. He was taken to a hospital and is still in a serious condition. –(FREEMAN)
