PESO managers renew support for DOLE program

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - At least 72 managers of Public Employment Service Office (PESO) renewed commitment to support the employment program of Department of Labor and Employment-7.

“We are overwhelmed by their show of support. Their accomplishments speak at how they helped facilitate employment, how they promote youth employment, how they encourage self-employment, and how they guide our youngsters on what career to take in college,” said DOLE-7 director Elias Cayanong.

“Our PESO Managers in Central Visayas are active, supportive, intelligent and empowered. We owe it all to their local chief executives for they trust our thrusts to help improve the lives of their constituents. We salute to the mayors and governors for their unwavering assistance,” he said.

The PESO managers’ support for DOLE Job Facilitation Plan for 2011 was established during their annual planning workshop at Alta Cebu Village Garden Resort in Cordova town from February 3 to 4, 2011.

Cayanong said each province was represented during the workshop where participants discussed their accomplishments and future plans.

Cayanong said the annual exercise gives them the chance to collate outputs from partner-PESO to guide DOLE-7 in effort to improve the delivery of services.

The participants have committed to assist DOLE achieve employment facilitation goals through job fairs and other programs.

Cayanong said these programs give a chance to improve the current unemployment situation in the country.

DOLE-7 supervising labor employment officer Jessica A. Uy said there were notable good practices that are instrumental in resolving crucial issues and concerns.

Uy said that the Cebu City, the Department of Manpower Development and Placement reported that it has regular free vocational course offerings for skills trainings.

These courses are culinary arts, cosmetology, dressmaking, among others.

Mandaue City, Uy said, came up with a regular Labor Market Information strategy that was passed by the City Council as an ordinance. The measure requires establishments to submit a regular vacancy report, which is required for the renewal of business permit.

Uy added that DOLE plans to provide capacity building sessions for a more effective PESO through the support of Bureau of Local Employment. (FREEMAN NEWS)
