CEBU, Philippines - A woman died while her companion is in critical condition after their motorcycle crashed on the national highway in barangay Colon, Naga yesterday dawn.

Mary Joy Quirante, 32, of Barangay North Poblacion, Naga was declared dead on arrival at the South General Hospital while motorcycle driver Raboni Delacorte whom she was riding with remains in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cebu Doctors University Hospital.

The victims were on a motorcycle bound for Minglanilla at 3:30 a.m. yesterday when Delacorte ran over a stone on the national highway losing control of the motorcycle.

Delacorte reportedly swerved right before slamming into the gutter. Quirante was thrown few meters away from the motorcycle and suffered severe head injury.

The residents of the place where the accident happened immediately called the Rural Health Unit for assistance. The responding health workers brought the victims to the South General Hospital where Quirante was declared dead on arrival.

Leah Languido, Emergency Room staff nurse of South General Hospital, said that they referred Delacorte to their sister hospital in Cebu City because he needs an intensive care.

“Gi-transfer siya sa Cebu Doc kay under ICU (Intensive Care Unit) man siya unya puno man ang hospital ngari,” Languido said.

Police Officer 2 Ken Cabrera said they recovered Delacorte’s wallet containing his driver’s license and several other documents including ATM cards. The motorcycle is now under police custody. (FREEMAN)
