Man shot dead in Toledo

CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old man was shot dead by a lone gunman while standing in a waiting shed in Sitio Tambis, Barangay Poog, Toledo City Sunday evening.

Emilio Laurito Jr., a resident of Barangay Bunga was reportedly shot thrice by an unidentified assailant who immediately fled onboard a motorcycle.

Toledo police investigator PO3 Alfredo Barquin said Laurito was waiting for someone in the waiting shed along the road when the suspect arrived and stopped in front of him.

The assailant then shot Laurito using a caliber .45 pistol hitting him to the chest and right arm then immediately fled towards Barangay Das.

Residents nearby who heard the gunshots ran towards the area and rushed the victim to Carmen Copper Corporation Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Policemen recovered two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.

Barquin said he knew the victim as a good person but the motive of the incident was not yet established.

“Naa siguro ni kontra kay imposible patyon siya nga way kontra,” Barquin told The FREEMAN over the phone.

Barquin added that residents nearby were uncooperative with them in their investigation.

“Ang mga tao diha basta naa’y patay-patay wa gyuy mu-witness,” he said.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
